The role

The Cabot Institute for the Environment was established in 2010, as the University of Bristol’s first flagship interdisciplinary research Institute. Since then, the Institute has been at the leading edge of catalysing and promoting interdisciplinary research, education, and engagement on environmental issues. We have a community of over 600 experts, who are united by a mission to provide the knowledge and solutions that protect our environment and identify better ways to live within our changing planet.

In October 2023, we launched our new ambitious 3-year strategy (Our strategy | Cabot Institute for the Environment | University of Bristol). You’ll play a pivotal role in managing the operational delivery of the institute to enable us to efficiently delivery our objectives and report against our progress.

What will you be doing?

You will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the institute’s operational delivery, this will include:

  • Reviewing and continuously improving our institutes operational processes and procedures, to enable the smooth running of the institute and efficient reporting mechanisms in line with our new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Including finance and budget management for the institute.
  • Facilitating the successful delivery of a small portfolio of research projects and associated awards: co-ordinating all administrative aspects such as planning reporting, finance or budget, recruitment, and procurement.
  • Line management of key administrative staff within the institute.

You should apply if

  • You have a passion for the environment and have experience of working within a research environment.
  • You are self-motivated and work well as part of a team and have excellent organisation and planning skills.
  • You can identify problems and solve issues and experience of supporting the delivery of high-quality support services.
  • You are calm under pressure, can work independently, and manage competing deadlines.
