The Applied Social Science Group within the Primary Care Unit at the University of Cambridge are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated research assistant to a project that explores the mental health treatment provided to young people with experiences of maltreatment or other safeguarding needs.

The successful candidate will collaborate with experts-by-experience, colleagues from The Care Leavers Association and other researchers to analyse case notes and interview transcripts and write up findings for publication. We are looking for someone capable of working responsively to research needs and opportunities as they arise, and with a desire to influence policy for children and families through research. Good communication skills and some previous experience using qualitative analysis methodologies would be beneficial for the role.

The successful candidate will join a friendly and supportive team, led by Professor Robbie Duschinsky. This team includes clinicians from various professions (e.g. clinical psychology, general practice, social work) and researchers from across disciplines (e.g. primary care research, epidemiology, sociology, psychology).

The postholder will be well supported in their professional development, with opportunities for developing skills and knowledge. The Investigators will work with the postholder to develop a bespoke training and development plan that will focus on the skills and experience they need to make the most of the opportunities afforded by the project and to progress their career. The postholder will also be supported to apply for subsequent opportunities relevant to their future career development.

The post’s responsibilities can be fulfilled largely through remote working in the UK, though there will be occasional in-person meetings.

We welcome applicants with lived experience of use of young people’s mental health and/or social care services as a service-user or parent/carer.

The funds for these posts are available for 12 months, from commencement in post, in the first instance. .

This is a part-time position 50% FTE (18.5 hours per week). Working days/times to be agreed.
